I'm not complaining. I took a chance on a build. It works, but I don't like the sound. So can I mod it into a Rat or Guvnor? or a Muff? I'm open to suggestions. After all, it's more about the journey and fun of building something new. I doubt the PCB will be recyclable but I'd like to reuse the box, switch etc..

The Color Boost is a pretty unique circuit, so I don't think it's really possible to mod it into one of the circuits you mentioned. But Keith may have some good ideas on changes you might try.

BTW, did you try my suggestion of dialing the gain down (like to 9 - 10 o'clock range) and cranking up the level to get a cleaner/more transparent boost?

You could try adding diode clipping. It would make the distortion much smoother.

1. Remove C4.
2. Take two electrolytic caps (anything between 1uF and 10uF) and connect their negative ends together. This will turn them into a single non-polarized cap.
3. install the new non-polarized cap into the C4 spot.
4. Connect one end of your diode clipping pair to the middle of your non-polarized cap where the negative ends connect. Connect the other end of your clipping pair to ground.

Yes, I did. It works that way but it didn't do anything "inspiring" for me. I'll try Keith's idea. Thanks!
