Hey guys, just curious... it looks like the BYOC 5 knob comp is very similar to this old (discontinued) version of the Wampler Ego comp I have on my workbench...

I'm just wondering if anyone has taken a close look at the Wampler Ego for comparison purposes? The most obvious difference I see is the CA3080E chip, and the 5 transistors are 2N5089 instead of the 7 2N5088's in the BYOC circuit. Diodes are the same. Some cap values are different... I'm just wondering if the way it works is the same, would it also sound the same? Or, hopefully better than the EGO?

I can't wait for the BYOC 5 knob comp to be back in stock because I really want to do a side-by-side comparison.

They're both based on the 2-knob Ross/Dynacomp compressor, so it makes sense that they have very similar components. The heart of the circuit is going to be the same, and then it's down to which aspects of the compression are being controlled by pots, and how the circuit implements it.
