So I built the BYOC Classic Brit 50 as my first amp and foray into amp building in general. 3 additional amps later (Matamp GT120, 5E3, and a AB763 Vibroverb) and I have learned what I like and dislike in my builds. That led me to reevaluate and rebuild part of the Brit 50.

The things I would suggest BYOC improve on this kit would be:

1. Use Belton Sockets instead of cheaper ceramic sockets;
2. Use real Cliff Jacks instead of chinese knockoffs (I have broken 2 of the 6 jacks already);
3. Use Switchcraft or Carling On/Off and Standby switches instead of chinese/taiwanese switches;
4. Use 1/2W metal film resistors throughout the build rather than the noisier carbon comp;
5. Install the screen resistors above the socket instead of sitting just off it;
6. Use higher quality turrets, like what Hoffman Amp uses;
7. Use 0.68uF 100V cathode bypass capacitors instead of the 0.68uF 630V cathode bypass caps;
8. Use a higher quality impedance selector knob than the one on there; and
9. Use real Alpha pots, instead of the knockoffs on there.

Don't get me wrong, I love this amp and it was great for a first build. Its still the amp I play most but these little improvements would go a long way towards the amp withstanding constant use (I play this at band practice every week and at gigs).

Also, putting NOS tubes in it really made it sound incredible. LOVE this build and would recommend it for anyone wanting a moderately challenging but extremely rewarding build. I actually just gutted it and will be doing a rebuild using a Hoffman board that I will design on DIYLC. Really grew to love this amp and I'm excited to keep playing it.
