As lot of us do, I own a recent Ibanez TS9 re-issue (its' about two years old) that I want to convert to TS808 specs. According to some information I've obtained online, all I have to do is swap in a JRC4558D or RC4558 OpAmp chip, change the shunt resistor from 100K to 10K, and change the series resistor from 470 ohms to 100 ohms. Is this all I have to do? It seems rediculously easy for a mod that some folks are charging $45 on up for. Does anyone know the actually reference designators for these two resistors, or are they pretty obvious and easy to find? I would appreciate any advice any of you have out there. Especially if it's in the vernacular of the BOZO, which I speak quite fluently - LOL :D :P :D :P

Hey Mantas!
Don't have any advice, but, if you are ordering from mouser for anything (last time I checked, smallbear doesn't carry these), order yourself a TLC2272 op amp. I hear a nice diff over the 4558's

Geek

P.S. I got that tip from Stephen in an earlier post.

You're right about the resistors.

But they just HAVE to be NOS carbon comp resistors... mkay?

Well, I've got my TS9 opened up and I'll be damned If I can be sure of the exact location of these two resistors. Does anyone out there have a picture diagram of where these two little buggers are so I can make sure that I pull and swap out the right ones?

I also have "directions" for modding your TS-9 for true bypass if interested.

I was pretty sure that these were the two I needed to change. Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. My schematics reading is pretty poopy and I kept running into dead ends whilst Googling.
I socketed my TS9 and put a RC4588P OpAmp chip in it a while back. It made a drastic difference. Now I just want to complete the mod. I'll probably pass on a true bypass mod for a while. I use EMG pick-ups and my present TS9 doesn't seem to be able to suck much tone out of them - LOL.

THanks Again Matt!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I Bow To YOU!!!

I'm just curious, the true bypass mod you're talking about involves drilling and putting a 3pdt swtich in, right?
