Hello,

I built a byoc bass chorus for my bass player and it sounds great. Only problem is that he has now decided he wants to play guitar

Are there some simple component changes I can do to make the bass chorus work nicely for the guitar frequency range? It sounds ok as it is, but is still very clearly a bass chorus being used on a guitar, if you know what I mean.

I'd also like to add that I've now built 12 byoc kits and they've all been superb so thanks! And please stop bringing out new kits or my wife might do something drastic.

Thanks!

If you compare the Bass Chorus schematic to the Analog Chorus, you'll see that the two effects are essentially identical, with two exceptions:

1) The addition of a Blend control in the Bass Chorus (a pot and two more resistors), and...
2) A different LFO-clock driver-BBD IC set: TL022/MN3102/MN3207 in the Bass Chorus vs. TL072/MN3101/MN3007 in the Analog Chorus.

I doubt that you can reasonably do anything about the latter, since the 3007 and 3207 BBD chips are not voltage-compatible. But the BBD's are both 1024-stage, so I'd expect them to work the same for bass or regular guitar. And I would think that the blend control could be set to mimic the static blend in the Analog Chorus. So I don't know why the pedal couldn't be set up to work just as well for regular guitar as for bass. But let me check with the smarter guys on these modulation circuits....

Yeah - what DVM said. The two circuits are pretty much identical. The current BYOC analog chorus kit has what can be perceived as a slightly nicer BBD in it. But i actually prefer the bass chorus for its blend control.

There's really nothing to do other than set the blend knob at noon. A dry blend is the primary difference between a bass chorus and a guitar chorus. A bass chorus (and most bass modulation effects in general) will cut a tiny bit of low end from the wet signal. This may seem counter intuitive to want to cut lows from a bass effect, but it gives more of a juxtaposition between your wet and dry signals. This would be done by changing C12 from a .033uf to a .01uf.....or I should say, do this if you want to make the BYOC Bass Chorus even more specific for bass. I personally prefer it with the fuller low end in the wet signal even on bass, so I kept C12 at .033uf.

Awesome - thanks all for the responses. So, make sure the blend control is in a reasonable place and we should be golden. Saves me having to take it to pieces! Thanks again.
