I built this fun little ESV Si fuzz years ago but it mostly sits on the shelf since I find it too dark, and not gainy enough for my needs.

Are there any mods I can do to this guy to bring out a little more of a fuzz beast :?:

That big mustard one sticking up? What will that do?

Yes, the mustard one. I believe that cap scrubs off high end and a bit of gain with it. So the pedal should definitely get brighter with it removed. Not sure if that will give you the amount of additional gain you're looking for. If it doesn't, I suppose you could always try a pair of higher gain transistors, like maybe 2N5089's. They're cheap, so why not try 'em?

Thanks! I'll try both of those ideas and see what happens.

So I was going to do this but first I just swapped in the test transistors that come with the kit and now I really like it with humbuckers as a high gain style FF. Who knew? :P
