Ok, I want to build the Screamer kit. My question is this. Is there a mod to get rid of the clean bleed that haunts the TS9? And does anyone know how Visual Sound achieves the bass boost on their 808 circut? If I could kill the bleed and work the bass boost into the unit.... that would be my ultimate overdrive unit. Any help is most welcome!

Thanks guys!
JD

Clean bleed- you hear the overdrive and the clean (uneffected) guitar signal at the same time. the clean sound is bleeding through the pedal. make sense?

Nope. Doesn't make sense. There is no dry mix in the 808 circuit. In fact, that's a mod that a lot of people try to do...add a dry signal to the mix.

As for increasing the bass and decreasing the mid hump, you just need to swap one cap...the kit comes with the extra part for that mod and a couple others.

and anyway, BYOC screamers are true bypass, so i'm sure that is going to solve problems like the one you mentioned.

i had a sparkledrive. the clean mix was completely useless. the only good is served as to make your pedal a clean boost.

I put a switch in my Screamer Clone so I can switch between a .022mfd and a .1mfd cap to increase the bottom end. It's my "Fat Switch".

Is that what he's talking about? Is there leakage from the non-truebypass flip flop switch?

How exactly do you wire up a switch like that? I'd like to be able to do a fat switch like that but am not sure exactly how I'd do it..

-Get a SPDT submini toggle switch from Radio Shack.
-Connect one lead from both caps to each other and to the PCB. Use either pad on the board. Polarity doesn't matter.
-Connect the other lead from each cap to the 2 outside poles (the .047 to one outside pole and the .1 cap to the other outside pole.
-Run a wire from the middle pole of the switch to the other spot for the cap on the PCB.
-make sure everything's insulated well.

The hardest part is finding a place for the switch. I put mine above and between the volume and tone knobs. I painted a vertical line for the stock position and a large dot for the .1mfd cap position for "Skinny" and "fat".

You can do the same thing for the clipping diodes (except remember that polarity does matter with diodes, although it doesn't matter which diode you replace).

Somebody please correct me if any of this is wrong!
