Build Your Own Clone Message Board

Hi all,

I'm in the process of building a large beaver (ram's head) and although I'm not even finished, I'm completely hooked and looking forward to future projects.

My one issue is that I have no idea what I am looking for on the websites I've seen (mouser, smallbear, etc), when comparing to the parts checklist on the guides here at BYOC. For example, looking for a 120 ohm resistor as it says on the parts checklist on mouser, there are many different types, and even the ones that look similar to the ones I have are either 1/4 or 1/2 watt..

So if anyone has any advice on how to further recognize which parts I will need from the checklists I would be very grateful!

The resistors are 1/4 watt, and a few will use 1/8 watt. They’re usually specified, they’re just smaller. Caps are film or nylon, electro caps are 16v to 50v on average. Whatever you can find closest to 18v. Hope this helps.

I'd go with caps of at least 25V rating, so that they can be safely used in 18V pedals.

Read the data sheet multiple times and verify the physical measurements. There's been a number of times where I thought I was ordering a tiny film capacitor and ended up with something the size of a 9V battery. You'll want a set of fairly decent, but not expensive, vernier/dial/digital calipers.

I feel your pain ordering from Mouser. Usually I'm looking for pedal-sized resistors or caps and they end up so big the box barely fits in the door...
