Hi i just built a BYOC Ross compressor clone with the attack knob using the newer BYOC circuit board & can not get the attack pot to work.
i get sound through the unit & the Volume & Sustain pots are working.
ive checked every component & wire & everything seems to be correct unless i missed something.
the only thing that is not the exact part that is called for is the attack pot in whicvh im using a A250K audio pot for the attack pot & i also tryed a B250K.
it calls for a C250K reverse audio pot & havent been able to find one .
i figured the A250K or B250K should work.
i built this to the ross spects which if i understand the instrucion right that you install every component Right ?
any tips would be apreciated.
you can also email me at dwir1@bellsouth.net.
Thanks
DW

What value resistor are you using to limit the minimum voltage on the attack mod?

The attack knob is pretty subtle. With the sustain all the way up, whang a chord with the attack knob at min, and then again at max. Seems best for adjusting to low/high output pickups.

hi thanks for the quick post on my problem .
i am using the standard 27K resistor as is the instructions for the attack pot .
i havent used a compressor in a long time so i hoping i am using it correctly but there seems to be really no compression going on at low or high setting
im not sure if this is normal but sustain pot acts kinda like a volume knob also.
the attack knob doesnt make any changes to the sound not even subtle changes .
could it be the IC or a transistor is bad .
i also changed the 3 2N5088s that are tegether on the left of the board & no difference.

Dave!

Gotta agree w/ CallmeRog....the attack knob is very subtle. Maybe it's rig-dependent, but on my gear it's hard to tell a significant difference no matter where you put it. On mine, the sustain knob also impacts volume, that's just normal.

I built mine to Ross specs, and despite the things noted above, I'm 100% sure it's doing what it is supposed to do. It's just not an "effect". If you want something that drastically alters your sound, this isn't the pedal. But again, IMHO, that's what makes it a good compressor.

OPPS i meant im using the 47K that hooks to the attack pot.
i also tryed a 27K & it would give a slight distortion so i put a 47K back in it.
i am using Keiths new circuit board.
has anyone having trouble with the new board.
i have built serveral of the older one & added the attack knob two them & they all work fine so i cant figure out what the problem is.
i now have replaced every 2n5088 on the board & still no luck.
the attack knob does nothing.
you cab hear s lighly compressed sound not much at all.
HELPPPPPPPPP
could the IC chip be bad ? i wish i had one to try it.
one thing i did do it calls for a .001 cap i only have .0022 & it called for a .05 & i used a .068 would that make that much difference

The attack knob doesn't do a whole lot unless you have hot pups.

Alternate cap values have to be considered relatively. Using a .068 in place of a .05 probably isn't too bad even though that's a .018uf difference. Using a .0022 in place of a .001 is only a .0011 difference, but it is more than a 100% value increase. So that could have a significant impact....but I cannot say for certain.

Interesting...I just finished my build of this pedal a few days ago and noticed the same thing. Though I feel the attack is pretty good anyway, so I figured I wouldn't worry much about it.
