Plugged everything in and it worked the first time. Some oscillator noise came through as well as noise in general. Swapped all the 2N5088's for 2N3904's and no difference; put the 5088's back in. Noticed on the CE-2 schematic there is 100 pf on the 4558 pins 1&2 and 7&6. So I tacked those on the back and that seems to have solved the noise problem. I also changed the 470pf to 680pf on the both of the 3207 lpf's. This smoothed out the sound but maybe too much.

So the problems: heavy tremolo effect is coming through. The signal is wobbling just like a tremolo. On my original 80's CE-2 there is no gain change with chorus effect. I want this completely gone from the effect. Do I need a diode somewhere? A hpf increased?
Problem 2: this might be a filter thing... the sound is TOO hifi. Again in comparison to the CE-2 it's quite "mundane", minimal sparkle.

After the build I scrubbed the flux from the pcb which solved noise as well.

Any suggestions for how to get rid of the tremolo occurring on the signal?

A good set of photos is almost always helpful for us to assist you. They need to be LARGE, well-lit, well-focused shots of BOTH sides of the PCB and all of the jack and switch wiring. You can post them to a publicly accessible hosting site and display or link them here, or post them directly here using the forum's file attachment function (found below the main posting text box). If you use the latter, know that there is a 1 Mb size limit for image files, so it may be necessary to reduce their dimensions or their color depth to get them below that size limit. Any of a number of image editing applications will allow you to do this. I often recommend IrfanView for this purpose, since it is free and very easy to use.
