Hi all,

I put together the PCB, then wired it following the online diagram...to the T. Thinking back, I never soldered anything for more than a second or two. It's not my first project, I've custom wired my guitar and made a few other pedals.

However, I can only get sound from my guitar when the 440 is bypassed. When I activate it, I can get some screams out of the amp if I touch the IC with my finger, screams that change freqs if I turn the "level" pot. some hums if I touch the caps. outside of that, I'm not getting a damn thing out of my guitar through the pedal.

further, if I touch the IC and then touch a guitar knob or the output jack plate, they feel charged and buzz a good deal.

what's the deal? should i post photographs? They probably won't help since they could be used as a diagram...

please, anyone, help me

I was fairly certain it was the DOD pedal from which you gleaned the specs for your envelope filter clone

also, in the finishing touches, the instructions said to re-solder the PCB and wires on th PCB if the problem I had occurred (LED ON, sound in bypass, no sound when activated)

I'll post pictures as soon as I can get my hands on a dig. camera.
What would you want? front and back of the PCB, wider shot of the enclosure...anything else?

A close up of the wiring is a good idea as well. Since you're getting nothing when switched on, it could well be a wiring issue.

Everything appears to be in the right place and the soldering looks good. Have you tried reflowing your solder joints on the PCB yet?

thanks for the reply.

Well, I'm using rosin-core, don't have any flux so the possibility of a cold solder joint is high.

Can you describe the process for incubating? Is that the solution?

I went over all the joints on the PCB with a bit of extra solder between the times I took these photographs.

Any other suggestions?

thanks again,

Andy

Plug it in with the bottom off, and the guts facing you. Play a note with the effect on, and wiggle one wire at a time. If any wire causes a crackle, or a slight split second of effect coming through, or something - then reflow both joints to the wire. If you find a problem wire you may even want to strip a little more of the jacket off, re-tin it, and re-solder it.
