So I built up the Lazy Sprocket. The only mod I did was the B100K attack pot mod. I get a very nice swell, but the notes only sustain for a few seconds, then it sounds like the gate closes (exactly as a noise gate does with aggressive settings). I read through a number of threads on this, but there never seems to be a consensus on how it should work. If I set the attack at about 2 o'clock (the point with a long swell, but no volume loss) and the Sensitivity to 9 o'clock, I get a great swell and the notes sustain for about 2-3 seconds (higher notes only sustain for 1-2 seconds and chords sustain a bit longer), then cut completely off. If I up the Sensitivity to about 10-11 o'clock, I can get longer sustain, but the swell is not as nice. I monkeyed with the trimmer and tried a few different guitars.
If this is normal, I won't worry about it, but if it is not, then I'll go through the process of posting pics, etc. Frankly, everything works as I would expect except for the short sustain.
One thread pointed to C9 as a possible culprit, but again, all of the threads on this seem to end without resolution.

It seems like you've got a handle on this, but it bears mentioning for others - the Sprocket works like a gate. When you play a note, the gate opens at the speed you select with the attack knob, and will STAY open until you stop playing for a moment. That means fast passages or strumming won't show the effect much - you have to play staccato (like you were) with spaces between the notes, allowing the gate to close, so you can get the swell effect on each note.

Agree with the Cap'n--that's how the Slow Gear/Lazy Sprocket circuit works & sounds. Works best on slow single note passages.

As far as that swell time mod goes, the link is here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=25481

The gate closes when the signal trails off. If you use a compressor before the circuit, it will keep the gate open longer.

Hopefully someone who currently has one of these pedals will chime in here.

Thanks Morgan. I think that I had a different expectation out of this pedal than what it is. It's cool, but not what I was looking for. Oh well. It did get me building and was my first completed build in a year. Man BYOC kits are nice to build. I think I will put it up on the BST forum soon.

I actually use mine as a noise gate. not for the swell.
