Hey guys, I built a 27V boost for a friend about a year ago and it has worked perfectly, but recently it started making what I can only describe as a helicopter chopping-like sound when it's turned on. Bypass works fine, there's no guitar signal coming through when the pedal is engaged.
Any ideas what might be causing that?

Probably either your power supply or the 7660 charge pump.

So if I have to replace it, I'll need another voltage inverting charge pump, right? Like a Max1044?

If the problem is the charge pump. Most often, it is indirectly caused by the charge pump though. They don't like to be used with DSP type effects, dying batteries, or budget power supplies.
