Almost 40 years ago I studied technician's level electronics and did some soldering, but I haven't since.

I am assembling the BYOC Parametric EQ Kit and I'm at the wire soldering stage. I don't have 3 hands and as such, I am trying to figure out the easiest and best ways to hold a wire in a hold and solder it. I've read that you fill the hole with solder without the wire first and then reheat it and stuff the wire in. The problem with that, is that I cannot see both sides of the board at one time and I'm not terribly coordinated, I am inexperienced for years, and I have tremors.

So far the build has gone fairly well, I didn't get 2 of the resistors in flat, but other than that, all has been well so far. I'm at the stage where the board pieces are installed and it's time for wiring up. I put off continuing to see if I can get advice on how to go about this.

I think in college I used a clip on heat sink to hold wires in while soldering them, clipping on the stuck through end. I just don't know how else to do it.

If I’m soldering from the top of the board, I use short lengths and stand the wire up and slightly out of the eyelet. Solder on one side iron on the other. Melt the solder, pull the solder away and push the wire down before it cools. If I’m putting the wire in from the bottom, I insert it into the eyelet and bend it down. Make sure to put in the wires before the pots. It’s a lot harder to solder if the pots are in. Those are the things I do.
