pi-Stomp is a High-definition, raspberry pi based, multi-effect stompbox platform for guitar bass and keyboards.

You build the hardware. The software is all free, open source and modify-able.

“Half kits” are available for the custom and hard to find parts (see link below). The remaining parts can be purchased from mouser.com. Total cost about $198 (USD) plus applicable shipping and tax.

The idea started in early 2019. I "Released" it to the public last September. The current PCB is the 8th iteration and has been successfully built 10+ times by builders around the world.

Software

  • All free open source

  • Base install includes over 350 plugins (effects, simulators, synths, etc.). More LV2 plugins are being created all the time. Most of them free.

  • Create/Edit multiple virtual pedalboards (via MOD webui over wifi) with up to 10 or more simultaneous plugins

  • Super flexible signal routing. Imagine it, wire it!

  • All controls (internal and external) can be mapped (midi-learned) to control any plugin parameter

  • Once pedalboards are saved, no computer is needed. Edit via knobs and LCD.

Hardware
  • Dual ins/outs, 24-bit 96kHz audio

  • Raspberry pi 1.4 GHz 64-bit quad-core processor

  • Three rugged click-less footswitches with LED halos

  • True bypass via latching relays

  • Expression pedal input, MIDI control via DIN or USB

  • Rugged aluminum powder coated enclosure with UV printed graphics

  • Modular design allows moding and upgrading

Another update...

A recent change to the pi-Stomp firmware allows other Linux audio software to run on pi-Stomp! You're not limited to MOD.

Two free audio hosts have been successfully tried. They both support MIDI-mapping, so you can map the pi-Stomp controls & footswitches (and/or externally connected MIDI controls) to control effect parameters within the host.

Rakarrack (http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/) - Very cool virtual pedalboard with many built in effects and presets

Carla (https://kx.studio/Applications:Carla) - A full featured modular audio host with support for many plugin formats including LV2, VST, VST3, AU, SF2 and SFZ.

And yeah, you can install them all and switch between the different hosts.

Such a cool looking project. I'm all in on my Helix, never dreamed anything close would be possible in the DIY realm. Sadly/thankfully, I have my hands full with other significant projects!
