This is my first mod to an existing pedal.

I turned a Ernie Ball VPJR Volume Pedal into an active volume pedal!

If god exists, he's in irfrench buffer/splitter layout! :)

If some have question, i'll be really happy to give all info, this is really cheap and easy to perform and turns that tone sucking volume pedal into something good!

you sir have lit a fire under my ass. i've been procrastinating this very same mod. i'd like to use the tuner out, but i knew it would have to be buffered. just never got around to it. since you already did all the leg work, post up some detail (preferred buffer), so i can steal your work. muahahaha

Ok! I'll try to be clear as possible....................big chances this does'nt happen...

So first, here's the vero layout of the buffer that i use in everything that i want some unity gain or buffering to be done!

Image

First thing you need to do is to take of the mono pcb mounted input jack of the volume pedal. You replace it with a stereo jack. You also make a hole for the 9V supply.

Connect the negative lug of 9v on the ring lug of the stereo jack, connect sleeve and tip of jack to the Volume Pedal Pcb.

Take 3 to 4 inch of wire to connect the positive 9V to buffer circuit. Ground the buffer where you grounded the input jack on the pcb.

Cut wire of volume pot lug 3 approximately 1 inch, going from pcb, connect to buffer input, connect the wire left, to the buffer output!

Tadam!
You have an active volume pedal! The reason why i ended using a stereo jack, is that it was producing some noise because everything was sharing same ground and also because I was loosing the option of ground lifting the volume pedal with the mini switch on the back of pcb.

pretty sure i have a tl072 laying around in something at home, i'm gonna make this happen tomorrow as long as the hangover doesn't stop me. the only thing i plan to do differently is use the stereo jack as an on-off

If you want to have an on/off switch, the buffer must be in true bypass, since the volume knob feed, is going directly througt the buffer, if you turn power off, the pedal wont work anymore.

yeah, to turn it off i would pull the input out. wired just like most everything else. 9v ground to ring, insert 1/4 and it grounds out and turns on.

I'll wait that my friend plays with it, but i think that if we want it to be good in the effect loop, it will need an impedance switch.

I will know tomorrow if he blows it! hahahaha!
