Seems to be a hot topic around here. Would someone care to share the knowledge and start from the beginning for the benefit of the forum, and me? Don't think we have anything like a "Stephen's Tips" going on for breadboarding.

Thanks
Geek

Lots of space helps. And a breakout box. And a jumper kit is essential. I do a lot of breadboarding.

Thanks for that. I was hoping to start with basics....and make a sticky out of it.

If she solder leaking from her nose and Tropical fish falling out of her butt, she 1,000x hotter.

Thanks a bunch for further pushing my addiction here fellas. I went out and bought a breadboard yesterday after reading this, and watching the youtubes. I put together a Bazz Fuss circuit. Then spent some time changing out values and diodes, and comparing sounds. Then I made a "home-made Darlington" out of some 2n5089's I just got for my Gruntbox builds, and the thing sounded killer. Great stuff. Lots of fun.

It's not too late. Until you've built a Beavis Board you are not completely gone . . . but you are on the verge . . .

Bobby,

I respectfully disagree. You can build a Beavis and be OK.

Once you start MODDING your Beavis......................................

"Modding your Beavis" is now my new catch phrase of the week.

Sounds dirty.

Yeah, I have actually Modded my "Beavis" Board. Is it sad that I actually changed the indicator LED in a couple of weeks ago to a waterclear?

One thing, I suggest for breadboard and testing is "pot box". I don't have pic of it, now, but mine allows me to test 7 different sized pots on the fly.

Pictures, plans, whatever, are demanded. I am about to build one of these and I could stand some good ideas instead of my own rum fueled ones. 8)

In my whole one day of breadboarding experience, I have actually accomplished a lot. I made myself a nice set of jumper wires out of some solid core ethernet cable. I made a few ready-to-deploy pots, and installed leads compatible with the breadboard... also made from the old ethernet cable. I took the circuit board out of one of my less succesful pedal projects so I would have a "breakout box" and wired up all the IN, OUT, -9volt, and +9volt with jumper wires. This gives me full pedal functionality for the breadboarded circuit.

The only problem arose when my modified Bazz Fuss circuit sounded so killer, I soldered the whole thing onto some perf, and installed it back into the enclosure I was using as my breakout box. LOL. But it is well worth it... one of the best sounding fuzzes I have made thus far.

So I have two intiatives to work on now. I will make a new proper breakout box for my breadboard. I have an old printer A/B/C switch box that I have been dying to make into something pedal related. But it is a bit too large to make into a useful pedal. I will make that into a breakout box with a stomp switch, IN, OUT, 9 volt power port, and all the other things required for a proper operating pedal. Then I will drill a half dozen or so holes and install a variety of pot values. Then I will make a wiring harness with some sort of organized labeling system. Should be a fun project.

The second project will be to re-make the bazz fuss circuit on the breadboard, and figure out how to add a tone circuit, a gain control, and maybe some sort of clipping selector. That should be educational at the least. And maybe i will come up with a good pedal as well.

Well, yes. Aside from the hot chick, Breadboarding is a seminal part of electronic design, and I felt there needed to be a bridge for the novice to cross the void. I wish the thread had more actual tips in it from experienced breadboarder's but, there is important info that I'd like board members to have access to. Sorry for the "inconvenience" of another sticky.

I have been starting really small on the breadboard. That seemed to be a good way to get going. I did a Bazz Fuss first. Five components. It worked like a charm and gave me some confidence. I am going to try an LPB-1 next. At this point I cant even imagine doing anything too complex on that medium.

haha no its not any big deal. I wish there was a way we could make a single "Tech sticky" and have links to all these threads. The information would still be there and it would clean up the forum a bit.
