Been working on a FZ1 on my breadboard and running into some issues. When I plug it in, on the suggested 3v, a faint clean tone comes through and as I hit the guitar strings harder a faint fuzz signal kind builds up then fades quick; it almost sounds like dying battery.

I’ve triple checked my layout, the reverse voltage is correct and I even tried running at 9v to see if that would help. When run on 9v, it was a shrill high pitch sound broken up fuzz sound. I checked transistors after and higher voltage did not seem to damage them.

I’m using the attached schematic and NTE transistor equivalent to the vintage transistors listed on the schematic. Any ideas what might be going on?
