I got around to working my first effects build with the BYOC confidence boost kit today. I've only done a little soldering in the past, with very little of that on a pcb. I tried to keep it neat, but managed to get rosin over a lot of the back. I cleaned it up a bit with some isopropyl
alcohol and nail polish remover.

Unfortunately, the kit doesn't work as of now; just a mid-level hum coming out of it. I can't see any obvious shorts in the soldering (though I'm pretty sure that's the issue). All the joints feel solid & wires resist a firm pull.

I figured I'd post on here to see if I could get some feedback & troubleshooting pointers. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looks like you have the input jack wired wrong.

Soldering quality looks very good, though. What's all the white fuzz on the back of the PCB? Got a cat? Or is it residual from cleaning off the solder mask? Won't hurt anything, though....

That was indeed it! I got to the very last step & then rushed myself. Clipped & swapped out the input jack leads (and output jack leads; at least I'm consistent!) and it works great now.

No. :D That was just the cotton strands from a swab from where I tried to clean up all the rosin. Thanks for the comment on the soldering. I can look closely and tell where I started & got a bit better as I progressed.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback. I greatly appreciate it.
