I've been working on my own take on the companion fuzz and of course ran into the well known volume drop. I decided to take a basic JFET based clean boost and work it into the circuit after the fuzz circuit, it definitely worked and has given it a TON of extra volume on tap with little to no effect on the tone. Curious if this is a wise way to get past this issue when you run into volume drop on, or if I should be heading down a different road. As always, thanks for all the knowledge.

I’d have done that or an opamp-based clean boost.

Thanks Frag! Are there perks to using an op-amp? Any recommended reading on this subject or advice would be appreciated. Right now, I'm working on dialing in the Companion side of the circuit, but want to make sure I'm using the right boost at the end of it.

Dunno. Someone smarter than me can probably school you on tradeoffs and benefits of either approach.

I tend to look at it in terms of expense (parts count/cost, does it make my PCB larger, is there already an unused opamp, etc).
