Hey, 1st time builder here....
So I've followed the instructions and soldered everything, making sure all the polarized components are put in the right way and the like. When I plug my guitar into the "In" jack socket and my amp into the "out" socket nothing happens it just buzz's and I don't actually get anything from the guitar. The led doesn't turn on either. However when I plug my guitar into the "out" socket and my amp into the "In" socket the led comes on when I push the footswitch but there is still just a fairly loud buzz. I've been told that the germanium diodes might have blown so I've included a picture of them as close as I could get. Someone also looked at it and said I might have pulled the track off at one of the transistors so I cleaned it up a bit and it looks ok to me now, I may be mistaken though! Any help will be much appreciated as I need to get it working rather quickly for a paper I'm writing. Sorry for the slightly out of focus pictures but It's the best I could do.
Thanks,
Stephen

Switch the tip and and ring wires on the input jack and see if that helps. Some defective jacks went out with recent kits that have the tip and rind ring swapped.

Update!
Ok so I've cleaned it up a bit and now it work's fine when it's not turned on and the guitar and amp are plugged into the correct sockets. However when I switch it on I have to crank my amp right up to get any sort of signal. I get sort of a crackly heavily distorted (not in a good way though) sort of sound. It only happens when I strike the strings fairly hard otherwise I don't get any sound. It only seems to be doing it on the highest three strings also.

You say you fixed it up, so I assume you reflowed some solder joints, because a few look a bit questionable.

Also, make sure the MPS21 and MPS23 are in there right spots. They are not interchangable.

Also a good shot of the wiring to the jacks and pots will help.
