Hey guys. Just finished the Classic Fuzz build. I really love the sound of the fuzz with the bias set around 11:00 which reduces the already low volume of the pedal. There has been talk of changing out the pot and resistors. I don't think this pedal is usable without more output volume, however i do Love the sound. I am new at this, but if i could get some help figuring it out, i am willing to mod my pedal until it has the output needed. Of course I'll share the results so that maybe we can all get more oompf out of the pedal. Please include good information so I can locate the parts needed. Thank you. Together we can figure it out.

My inclination would be to either (1) run a clean boost pedal after the fuzz, or (2) install one of the Crown Jewel boost modules in the Classic Fuzz enclosure and wire that in between the C6 cap and the Level pot. The LPB or the MOSFET boost modules are both tiny and would easily fit where the 9V battery would usually go. You would just need to make four connections to the module: signal input from the Fuzz, output (to lug 3 of the Level pot), +9V, and ground.

You can get more volume from any fuzzface or tonebender by increasing the 470ohm or 330ohm resistor off the collector to supply voltage. Try a 1k. Your sweet spot at 11 o'clock won't be at 11 o'clock anymore though. It will be somewhere else on the dial.

Which resistor location exactly, Mr. BYOC? I love the sound of my Classic Fuzz but the volume drop is so significant that it makes managing the signal chain with other pedals super difficult.

There's only one 330ohm resistor. R5. Page 28 in the instructions.

To save you the look-up, here's the PCB map. Look right under the LED connection:

Thanks, fellas. Tried the 1k first and it definitely helped, but the volume was still pretty low when setting the bias low for the gated effect, so I tried a 1.5k and it's perfect. Definitely a lot more versatility this way.

It's a good mod, and it always makes me wonder why the standard value is so low.

Does it affect the tone in some way that I have never noticed? I admit I'm not much of a fuzz user in the first place.

Not that I could notice, either. It's worth noting that I'm running synths through my pedals, so don't take my word on tone if you're a guitar player (I have attenuators and reamp boxes, though, so the levels are where they're meant to be for guitar pedals).
